COMMUNITY
PROGRAMS

Strong communities create strong schools.

To support our community of families, teachers, and staff, we offer several programs and events to build our community at Booksin. Some of these events double as fundraisers for BESCA, but most are break-even programs designed to foster community.

Teacher Appreciation

The relationship between child and teacher is the most important one during the school day. We honor our teachers once a month with our Teacher Treats program. Volunteers bring in treats to show our appreciation for their work with our students. In addition, we host an annual Teacher Appreciation Luncheon as part of Teacher Appreciation week in May. The luncheon provides an opportunity for our teachers to enjoy a nice lunch together as we celebrate their hard work and dedication to our students.

Yearbook

The Booksin yearbook is a photo memory book that highlights staff and students to showcase daily life at Booksin. Parent volunteers for each class help document the year in pictures, then layout the yearbook towards the end of the school year. Yearbooks are available for purchase each spring.

Community Events

BESCA hosts several school-wide events each year, including the annual Walkathon and Family Fun Night. In addition, we host movie nights throughout the year, and a night at the San Jose Giants in April. Check the calendar for specific event dates and details.

Parent Events

The school community is a great way to meet other parents that live in the neighborhood. BESCA hosts a few parent-only events throughout the year, including a fall happy hour social and a spring parent-only social. Check the calendar for specific event dates and details.

Book Fair

BESCA sponsors a book fair each year to encourage reading for our students while earning money for our library to purchase new books. We partner with Hicklebee's, a local bookstore in Willow Glen.

Booksin is proud to have teamed with the City of San  José  for the Walk N' Roll program!  Walk N’ Roll San José goals are to increase walking and biking to school, foster a healthy and active lifestyle, and reduce traffic congestion and related air pollution which leads to a safer environment within school zones.  We encourage families and students to walk and roll to school once a month or more on Fridays. This is such a wonderful way to build community! Classrooms will have the opportunity to win the monthly trophy for highest walk and rollers to school and other great prizes! Find out more about the City of San José's Walk N' Roll Program and Project Vision Zero

Fall Food Drive

Each year, BESCA sponsors a Fall Food Drive the week before Thanksgiving to collect food and monetary donations for Second Harvest food bank. The food drive is a great opportunity to show our students how to care for others in our community.

Book Exchange

The book exchange is a student favorite each year as we head into Winter Break. Students are invited to bring books they no longer want to school, and for each book they bring, they get to pick out a different book to take home. This is such a great way to encourage reading over the break, while giving kids a chance to read new books for free!

5th Grade Promotion

Each year we celebrate the accomplishments of our 5th grade graduating class with several promotion activities, including a promotion breakfast and a promotion ceremony on the last day of school.
