The following board members were elected and took office in July 2018.
Statements of Intent
President: Jennifer Maddox
My name is Jennifer Maddox. I have 2 children at Booksin, Owen - in 2nd grade, and Reese - in kinder. I've lived in the Bay Area for 11 years and am originally from the midwest. I have a degree in ﬁnance, and spent most of my career in sales and marketing for financial software companies. I have been involved with Booksin as a classroom volunteer, the auction chair the last couple of years, an art docent, and am organizing this year's Amazing Race. I am a big advocate of public education and am proud to be part of our strong Booksin community. I would be honored to serve as a leader in our BESCA Board and continue the work of being advocates for each of our students.
VP of Communications: Anne Herz
My name is Anne Herz and I’m running for the office of Vice President of Communications. I am the parent of a first grader at Booksin and in prior work life, I spent 12 years as a software engineer at Apple. In the two years I’ve been at Booksin, I’ve discovered that I enjoy volunteering in many ways. In addition to working in the classroom, and teaching art and garden classes, I ran the Hicklebees Book Fair in November 2018. In partnership with my husband Scott, we also managed the technical side of the 2017 Walkathon including running the Dojiggy pledge system, Walkathon email notifications and creating the BESCA Shop on Squarespace to sell products such as tickets, t-shirts, and more. Since the Walkathon, we have extended our use of the Squarespace BESCA Shop to help make fundraising and event organization easier both for our volunteer organizers as well as our community of families. As the VP of Communications, my primary goals are to make it it easier for families to find the information they need and want, and to make it easier for the volunteers who organize events at school to communicate with the families. I hope to revamp the BESCA website, merging it with our BESCA Shop to make a single unified site. In addition I plan to revamp our communication strategy making it easier for everyone to be a part of BESCA and thus helping create more of a sense of community. I thoroughly enjoy being a member of the Booksin community and look forward to serving.

VP of Finance: Sunshine Benke
My name is Sunshine Benke and I will have my older boy, Camden, entering the 2nd grade at Booksin for the 2017-2018 school year, I also have a younger boy, Cohen, who will be hopefully joining his brother in the 2018-2019 school year. I am a NY transplant, but have lived in the area for almost 10 years now. I graduated college with a finance degree and worked at Merrill Lynch before leaving finance when I moved to the Bay Area. I have been a parent volunteer in Camden's classroom once a week all three years of his schooling. And I'm involved in a parent participation preschool with my younger son where I will be class coordinator next year. Being involved in my sons' school is very important to me, and I know both my sons (for now), love that I am.
Secretary: Jill Cleveland
My name is Jill Cleveland. I currently have a 4th grader at Booksin and a preschooler who will be starting Booksin in the fall. I’ve grown up in the Bay Area my entire life and have had the privilege of calling Willow Glen my home for the past 9 years. I have an undergraduate degree in Finance and masters degree in Marketing. I spent over 14 years building a career at Apple in marketing and for the past two years have been able to begin my second career as a stay at home mom. Since then, I’ve been able to spend more time volunteering in my daughter’s classroom as an Accelerated Math tutor, homework helper and this year as room parent. With a younger child starting Booksin in the fall and my career as a stay at home mom advancing, I hope to be able to spend more time helping to shape the educational experience at Booksin by joining the BESCA board.
Treasurer: Maryanne Evans
My name is Maryanne Evans. My son, Matthew, is in first grade at Booksin and my daughter, Allison, will enter kindergarten in the Fall. I'm a native to the Bay Area, originally from Pacifica. I have a Masters in Accounting and am a CPA. I work part time at a venture firm in Menlo Park. My involvement with Booksin includes being a classroom volunteer and also through helping with the art program and Project Cornerstone. I am so glad to be a part of the Booksin Community and would be honored to serve on our BESCA Board. Go Bulldogs!
